“The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read.”
Summary: So much happens on the boardwalk. Through word and illustration, discover all the activities and things you can do on the boardwalk. This is an easy reader picture book about a day at the beach.
Type of Reading: family reading, anytime reading, playtime reading, read aloud book
Recommended Age: read together: 2 to 6; read yourself: 5 to 8
Interest Level: 3 to 7
Reading Level: 1.6
Young Reader Reaction: Review pending.
Adult Reader Reaction: At first I was frustrated with the level of repetition, but once I got into the rhythm, they made it fun. This is a book you'll read slowly. There is a lot kids will want to explore in the illustrations well after you've finished reading the two stanzas.
Pros: Family together time, humor, and plenty of visual cues will make this a fun read for kids getting ready to go to the beach.
Borrow or Buy: Borrow, at least. This would make a fun book for a new reader to share with a younger sibling.
Educational Themes: With very young children you can point out different activities, ask them to point to things or count (balloons, sea gulls, ice cream cones, etc).
Notes: The publisher donated a copy of this book knowing that we would consider it for review and provide an independent, unbiased profile. This book will be given to a nonprofit to help readers in need.
