Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, 2015
Material: board book
Summary: A young child has many imaginary adventures with his blankie before settling down with it for the night. This is a rhyming board book for sharing at bed or nap time.
Type of Reading: bedtime story, read aloud book
Recommended Age: read together: 0 to 2; read yourself: 4 to 6
Interest Level: 0 to 3
Age of Child: Read with a 14-month old girl.
Young Reader Reaction: My daughter was not particularly interested in this book. She did not sit still for me to finish reading it, and she did not pick it for me to read it to her again.
Adult Reader Reaction: This is a cute book. It will mean more to a child to a child who sleeps with a blanket. My daughter doesn't, and that may be the reason for her reaction. Even so, I was surprised she wasn't more interested. The book has cute illustrations and rhymes.
Pros: This sweet story encourages imaginative adventures. With its rhyming verse and pastel illustrations, it is a perfect choice to help send little listeners off to dreamland.
Cons: The only negative is that it has a somewhat limited audience in that the book would likely be much more interesting to children who sleep with a blanket than to children who do not.
Borrow or Buy: Buy. Parents of children who sleep with a blanket (or similar lovey) may want to buy this book since it would likely become a bedtime favorite for them.
Educational Themes: This is a story meant to be shared just before bedtime or nap time.
Notes: The publisher donated a copy of this book knowing that we would consider it for review and provide an independent, unbiased profile. This book will be given to a nonprofit to help readers in need.
