Material: hard cover

Summary: Within the pages of this book, you'll find labels for the places, things, and activities that comprise a school day. This is a bilingual book that introduces school to young children.

Type of Reading: family reading, playtime reading, anytime reading, read aloud book

Recommended Age: read together: 0 to 5; read yourself: 4 to 6

Interest Level: 1 to 5

Age of Child: Read with 4½-year-old child.

Young Reader Reaction: Our preschooler loves speaking Spanish (routinely making up words), but we couldn't garner much interest in this book, even with multiple attempts.

Adult Reader Reaction: Given that the dust jacket describes the books as "eloquently written text" we expected to read a bilingual story. This is nothing more than a well illustrated picture book for identifying objects.

Pros: The illustrations are great and the vocabulary (in both English and Spanish) complement the text. The book would create a nice fit in a bilingual preschool classroom.

Cons: There is no story, just a word or two per page. Luckily the illustrations offer potential to elaborate and create a story ... if you're creative.

Borrow or Buy: Borrow, at best. While this offers basic vocabulary, there are other books with stories that can engage your child more.
