Publisher: Wholesome Puppy Tales,

Material: hard cover

Summary: Niik and Bling meet as puppies. They learn how to get along and become friends. This is a photo-story with dogs as the main characters.

Type of Reading: bedtime story, playtime reading, read aloud book

Recommended Age: read together: 3 to 6; read yourself: 6 to 9

Interest Level: 3 to 7

Age of Child: Read with a 3-year-old child.

Young Reader Reaction: My child enjoyed the puppies trying to build a playhouse. He laughed at some parts of the story. When asked, he said he liked it.

Adult Reader Reaction: In the end, this one left me neutral. The story is generally appealing and the pictures are bright and clear, but the more I read it, the more it seemed that the dogs were the point and the story was contrived to fit the pictures. The final page is cute.

Pros: The photos are very clear and playful. The book has a positive and active tone. If you have a child who really loves dogs, they will enjoy this book. It also contains some more adult-like humor, such as one of the dogs “is a bit of a princess.”

Cons: The layout of the text and photos on the page is distracting.

Borrow or Buy: Borrow or skip it, unless you love all things dog (or own a collie or Tervuren.

If You Liked This Book, Try: MY BEST FRIENDS   MURPHY'S SAFETY SONGS   THE LAST BASSELOPE: ONE FEROCIOUS STORY
