“Reading is a discount ticket to everywhere.”
Summary: Duck goes out into the rain in his RED boots, with an ORANGE umbrella, with his friend the GREEN frog, etc., through all the colors of the rainbow and more! This is a fun exploration into the world of identifying colors for toddlers. Preschoolers can use it as an easy reader.
Type of Reading: family reading, anytime reading, playtime reading, read aloud book, learning to read
Recommended Age: read together: 2 to 6; read yourself: 4 to 7
Interest Level: 2 to 5
Reading Level: 0.4
Age of Child: Read with children ages 2, 4, and 6.
Young Reader Reaction: My kids loved the bright colors and playfulness in this book! The cute story and fun illustrations made it a must-re-read for my boys.
Adult Reader Reaction: I loved the sweet duck in the story! He is very cute and adorably illustrated! The words were few, but that is a good thing for a 2-year-old. The color learning is just right for this age -- and younger! The illustrations are wonderful enough I'd recommend this as a "first book" to even babies who are not developmentally able to identify colors. My favorite part of the book is at the end when duck comes in from the rain and momma duck wraps him up in a warm purple towel -- so sweet!
Pros: Wonderful illustrations and simple story give you a quick read to share with youngest readers (read: short attention spans!).
Cons: None! This book is too young for the reading audience. The themes and reading ease are just right for the stated target audience, Perfect for 2 year old, a teeny bit old for a 4 year old, way too young for a 6 year old
Borrow or Buy: Buy. This is a sweet book you'll read over and over. It would make a WONDERFUL gift for a first birthday, holiday, or just because! Pair it with a towel and it will be truly loved.
Educational Themes: In addition to learning colors, you can explore the world when it rains and is wet (mud, puddles, rainbows).
