THE GOING TO BED BOOK

Author: Sandra Boynton

Illustrator: Sandra Boynton

Reserve at the Library

Publisher: Simon & Schuster Adult Publishing Group,

Material: board book

Summary: Join the animals as they prepare for bed: taking a bath, donning their pajamas, exercising and retiring to sleep. As with all Boynton books, there's a level of interactivity that engages toddlers in learning through doing and imitation.

Type of Reading: bedtime story, family reading, read aloud book

Recommended Age: read together: 0 to 4; read yourself: 6 to 8

Interest Level: 0 to 5

Age of Child: Started reading with a child 3 months old; still a hit at 2 years.

Young Reader Reaction: S/He selected this as part of the first "gotta read every night" collection. Even today, we still get periodic requests…and a greater ability to imitate the activities (like brushing teeth).

Adult Reader Reaction: Like all Boynton books, there's a rhythm that simultaneously keeps the story moving along and soothing at the same time. After nearly 2 years, this one hasn't gotten old.

Pros: The animals are cute. There's plenty of opportunity to point out the different characters and imitate their activities.

Cons: None.

Borrow or Buy: Buy. With this one you'll more than recover the price in number of uses and all-around fun read.
