Summary: At midnight, the Paci Pixie picks a flower. After drinking its nectar, she spreads her wings and flies to the home of a child sleeping with their pacifier. She quietly explains that the time has come to give her pacifier to a new baby. The Pixie delivers the used paci to her friends in the forest who make it new and return it wrapped, ready for the child to give to someone special. This is a book to encourage children to give up their pacifier. It comes with a CD.
Type of Reading: bedtime story, playtime reading, read aloud book
Recommended Age: read together: 1 to 5; read yourself: 7 to 9
Interest Level: 1 to 5
Young Reader Reaction: Review pending.
Adult Reader Reaction: I loved this story the first time I read it. It is a wonderful pay-it-forward way of helping a child give up a habit. The illustrations are a little too computer-ish for me, but they don't detract from the message. The CD version is a nice way to reinforce the story as a child nods off to sleep.
Pros: This quiet story is perfect for bedtime. The colors are soothing, the words are soft, and the text is short but sweet.
Cons: If you have a hard time reading fancy fonts or colors, this text could pose problems for you.
Borrow or Buy: Buy. If you have a child who is attached to their pacifier, this is an excellent book to have in your arsenal.
Educational Themes: This is a story meant for sharing and encouragement. If you have a mature child, you might talk about habits and breaking habits, but that concept is pretty much beyond the intended audience.
Notes: The Reading Tub® picked up this book at Book Expo America. There are no expectations of review associated with this book.
