Material: hard cover
Summary: Emma discovers a present from Santa in the closet down the hall. It is a beautiful snow globe with a Partridge in a pear tree. As she's admiring it, she trips on the carpet and it breaks. Oh no! What happens next is pure Christmas magic. This is a Christmas story built around the classic Twelve Days of Christmas song.
Type of Reading: bedtime story, playtime reading, read aloud book
Recommended Age: read together: 3 to 8; read yourself: 9 and Up
Interest Level: 3 and Up
Reading Level: 3.1
Young Reader Reaction: Review pending.
Adult Reader Reaction: This wasn't what I expected. I thought it would be a beautiful illustration of the classic song, but it is so much more. Even though there is some text, there are illustrated panels that help tell the story without words. Each image offers something to discover, so plan to linger on them.
Pros: Even if you aren't a fan of the Twelve Days of Christmas song, you'll love the story that is built around this Christmas carol.
Borrow or Buy: Buy. This is more than just an illustrated version of The Twelve Days of Christmas song.
Educational Themes: Because of the familiarity of the Christmas carol and the wordless panel illustrations, children will be able to follow along and "read" much of the story.
Notes: The publisher donated a copy of this book knowing that we would consider it for review and provide an independent, unbiased profile. This book will be given to a nonprofit to help readers in need.
