Summary: This is the well-known rhyme "This little Piggy," with pictures. This is a board-book version of the classic child's rhyme.
Type of Reading: playtime reading, read aloud book
Recommended Age: read together: 0 to 2; read yourself: 4 to 6
Interest Level: 0 to 3
Age of Child: Read with a boy who is 1½ years old.
Young Reader Reaction: Our child would flip through the pages on his own to look at the colorful pages.
Adult Reader Reaction: This might be more valuable to share with a younger child (6 months). When I recite this poem, I prefer to do the motions (wiggling toes, etc), and have eye contact. These things are hard to do when you're holding the book, so the rhyme loses some of its charm.
Pros: Cute illustrations and a short story make this attractive for sharing with infants.
Cons: I prefer books with unique text, rather than repackaging rhymes we already know.
Borrow or Buy: Skip. It is more fun to engage your child directly rather than have the book carry the rhyme.
