Summary: Meet the creatures of the sea and uncover the mysteries of their world by lifting flaps. This is an interactive, non-fiction picture book for young children.

Type of Reading: playtime reading, interactive reading, read aloud book

Recommended Age: read together: 3 to 7; read yourself: 8 to 10

Interest Level: 3 to 8

Reading Level: 2.9

Age of Child: Started reading with three-year-old child.

Young Reader Reaction: This book has been a constant companion for our child since we purchased it nearly three years ago. For MONTHS it was the must-have book at bedtime; now, s/he periodically selects it (probably every 6 to 8 weeks) to be read together at night.

Adult Reader Reaction: The book is very informative, and it is nice to have sturdy books that have real information. Still, because the book is more a collection of facts than a story, the reading does get old after a while.

Pros: This is a sturdy picture book that engages the child. It is perfect if you are looking for non-fiction titles for toddlers and preschoolers.

Cons: None, other than it doesn't have a character-driven story.

Borrow or Buy: Borrow, at least. The book has valuable information written perfectly for pre-readers (especially those who love everything related to the ocean).
