Recommended Age: read together: 3 to 8; read yourself:

Interest Level: 3 to 10

Reading Level: 3.4

Age of Child: Read with and by a 10-year-old girl.

Young Reader Reaction: At first my 10-year-old wasn't sure she liked the book. Picture books are for "little kids," but then she started looking at the illustrations. They drew her in, and by the time we'd finished reading, she told us this is a book "for calming you down."

Adult Reader Reaction: I can see why our daughter loved the illustrations. There are pages where you sense (feel, hear) the surf in the background. The humor is subtle and bold, like the colors on the page. There is a poem for everyone!

Pros: Beautiful illustrations, clever word play, and sensory-rich poetry create a book that lets you hold summer in your hands.

Cons: None.

Borrow or Buy: Buy. It is beautiful. It will make you and your kids smile and remember - or look forward - to great days.
