“Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.” More
Summary: Little Bear is sad because his wishes just aren't coming true. When Mother Bear asks what his wishes are, he says he wants to be an astronaut, pirate, and king. Them Mother Bear reminds him of some of his wishes that do, like sitting together and looking at the northern lights or having his favorite breakfast. Then she tells him sometimes little wishes come true, sometime big wishes come true. And her biggest wish? Him! This is a gentle story about love and understanding wishes.

Young Reader Reaction: Our daughter oohed and aahed about the bears and when Mother Bear snuggled Little Bear, she cuddled closer, too. She loved the beautiful colors of the Northern Lights and the story.
Adult Reader Reaction: This is a beautiful story in word and picture. Although we said that Little Bear was a "he" there is nothing to suggest gender. This would be a wonderful selection for an adoptive family, too.
Pros: Beautiful illustrations and words combine in this picture book where love jumps from the page.
Borrow or Buy: Buy. This is a wonderful book that can be treasured for many years. It is perfect for every family.
Educational Themes: This is a book about love between a parent and child. Given the way the author has framed the idea of "wishes," it is an excellent book to start the conversation about counting your blessings, looking for the beauty and happiness of everyday life, and what wishes really are.
Notes: The publisher donated a copy of this book to the Reading Tub, Inc. This is an unsolicited donation.
