Type of Reading: bedtime story, family reading, playtime reading, read aloud book, learning to read, developing reader
Recommended Age: read together: 0 to 4; read yourself: 6 to 8
Interest Level: 0 to 3
Reading Level: 2.2
Age of Child: Started reading with 1-year-old child.
Young Reader Reaction: S/He likes the illustrations and will usually stop her wanderings when this one is read.
Adult Reader Reaction: It's a little simplistic. We like it because its inclusive of how EVERYONE contributes to sharing love with a child, not just the parents.
Pros: Although pegged as an adoption book, it really describes how all parents feel and the things they do to prepare for the arrival of a new baby. The pastel watercolor illustrations are warm and soothing.
Cons: It may be TOO simple in trying to introduce the concept of adoption.
Borrow or Buy: Borrow it. It's a nice one to cycle periodically when you want to begin talking about adoption, but has little long-term utility.
