Author Showcase

The story of Peter's life (not to mention his two novels for teens) resonate with parents and kids alike: school is hard, but what you learn in school (and not all of it is academic) will help you live your dream.

For kids, Peter is a real-live person they can relate to, both through his personal experiences and through his books. He was a struggling student. He knows first-hand how isolating it can be for kids who need extra help. More importantly, he also represents the success that comes with perseverance and dedication. He made his dream of being a published author come true.

In his Struggling Learner presentation, Peter talks about the power of negativity. He draws on personal experience to show how negative comments from the adults in his life — the people with the most influence — had on his self-worth. He pushed past it and now offers parents, teachers, and administrators tools they can use to encourage success. He offers the same message to kids in his books.

Peter taught elementary school for eleven years. During that time, he would write stories to read to his students. Since July 2006, Peter has been the principal at Poestenkill Elementary School, Poestenkill, NY. He is also a national consultant for the International Center for Leadership in Education, an educational organization that works with schools in 45 states across the country.

Peter is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and the Children's Literature Connection. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the College of Saint Rose in Albany (NY) and a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY.
