Author Showcase

Like Chessie Bligh, the hero in her novels, Thora Gabriel is an adventurer, exploring the world and uncovering the Truth. As an avid, experienced hiker, Thora can help Chessie navigate the canyons of the southwest United States. In return, she wants to borrow Chessie's magic bubble wand so that her office of cubicles will turn into an endless meadow.

Even without a mystic prop, Thora's world — and Chessie's, too — is magical. Her debut novel Chessie Bligh and the Scroll of Andelthor has won multiple awards, including a Mom's Choice Award (Young Adult/Fantasy Category, March 2008); an iUniverse Editor's Choice Award (November 2007); a Reader's Choice Award (October 2007); and the Midwest Book Review Winner for Fantasy/Fiction (September 2007).

Thora grew up on a family farm in northern Illinois. Living in a small town with a menagerie of animals served as the springboard for her imagination. Topsy, her first horse, was the heroic steed who helped her achieve the rank of wizard Elf.

Ultimately, Thora left the kingdom in Illinois and moved to California. One day, while hiking the canyons, she discovered Chessie and realized that her role was not to be the wizard, but the Elf historian. Chessie hopes to reveal the true history of the world — the history of the common person. Through Thora, she wants readers to look beyond what was or is to see what could be. It will take several volumes for Thora to help Chessie with this quest.

Thora is an author, mom, and Girl Scout leader. She is a member of Independent Book Publishers Association and the Children’s Literature Council. Thora lives in Yorba Linda, California with her husband and Bogie, whose life is the inspiration for Wuggbert.
