Title: WHERE DOES THE SUN GO?

Author: Gary Craig

Illustrator: Gary Craig

Reserve at the Library

Publisher: Elora Media, LLC, ©2004

Material: hard cover

Summary: Review pending. This is a picture book that explains how the sun rises and sets each day.

Type of Reading: bedtime story, anytime reading, family reading, playtime reading, early reader, read aloud book

Recommended Age: read together: 3 to 6; read yourself: 7 to 9

Interest Level: 2 to 5

Age of Child: Read with children ages 2 and 4 years old.

Little Kid Reaction: My children did not like the book and I could not get them interested in reading it again.

Big Kid Reaction: I really liked the concept of teaching young kids about the science of the sun, but I thought there were too many illustrations for the text. I was constantly turning pages and my son was not able to dwell on what he heard and saw. The book is reasonably well written.

Pros: This is a good science picture book that uses fairly informal pictures and rhyme to explain the sun's process.

Cons: Too many illustrations. If you could cut out every other page and write in the text on the page following, it would be much more enjoyable.

Borrow or Buy: Borrow or skip. I am borderline on this. The number of illustrations (compared to the length of the text on each page) makes learning the concept quite difficult.

If You Liked This Book, Try: SATURN FOR MY BIRTHDAY , LITTLE BEAR, YOU'RE A STAR! (A Greek Myth) , TIME For Kids: VOLCANOES! (Science Scoops, Confident Reader)

Educational Themes: Use the illustrations to talk about how the sun "moves" across the sky.
