Type of Reading: family reading, anytime reading, read aloud book, interactive reading
Recommended Age: read together: 3 to 6; read yourself: 6 to 9
Interest Level: 3 to 8
Age of Child: Read with a 5-year-old girl.
Little Kid Reaction: My daughter liked some of the rewritten songs and even sang along with some of them. She laughed and laughed at some of them. She also said she wished she had thought of some of them herself. Even though she didn't want to share this book again, she started making up silly songs on her own.
Big Kid Reaction: I picked this book because she was making up songs herself to familiar tunes so I thought she would like it. I liked singing through and trying to remember the tunes while putting the new words in. This was lots of fun, and I was glad to see her laughing and having fun with a silly book.
Pros: Lots of silliness will get everyone involved - and laughing - in this fun book for the whole family. It might spark some creativity, too.
Cons: There is the possibility that you won't know (or may have forgotten) some of the original tunes.
Borrow or Buy: Buy. This is fun to have at home or in your classroom ... and you're likely to find it in the library.
Educational Themes: This is a book for reading and having fun. Changing the words might spark some creativity in your kids to make up their own songs to favorite tunes.
