Title: LOVING OTHERS: FAITHFUL CRUSHERS

Author: Kasey M Carter

Illustrator: Kasey M. Carter

Reserve at the Library

Publisher: Tate Publishing Enterprises, ©2009

Material: paperback

Summary: Trip and Daisy are two monster trucks. They are very excited, because they are going to the beach today. Their trucks don't use regular gas, they fill up on God's word. So before they left, Trip read a Bible verse from the Book of John. It turned out to be the perfect verse, because they each needed to rely on it to get out of problems that happened at the beach. This is a text-heavy picture book that offers a story of faith.

Type of Reading: family reading, anytime reading, independend reading, read aloud book.

Recommended Age: read together: 4 to 8; read yourself: 10 and up

Interest Level: 4 to 7

Reading Level: 6.1

Age of Child: Read by a 9-year-old girl at Effort Baptist Church as part of the Children's Ministry and Use Your ABCs project.

Little Kid Reaction: I picked this book because the cover shows two trucks that love each other. I liked the story, I particularly liked the Bible verse.

Big Kid Reaction: This is a disappointing book. The author keeps interrupting the characters, and while it is fun to suspend reality and have two monster trucks spend a day at the beach, the activities they are engaged in go beyond silly.

Pros: Our young reader found it a fun read.

Cons: The story does not flow well. The reading level is well above the age of the probable target audience. I can't see sixth graders reading this!

Borrow or Buy: Borrow or skip. This is a story with potential, and maybe future titles in the series will work out better.

If You Liked This Book, Try: OLD MACNOAH HAD AN ARK , THANK YOU, RUTH AND NAOMI , AWA GANG: A PLACE FOR THE KING

Educational Themes: This is a story that explores the real-life application of a Bible verse to our lives. It could be the beginning of a discussion about love and faith.
