Little Kid Reaction: My son didn't like the book. He didn't really relate to it, because it doesn't have a story. The illustrations were a simple snapshot of the dog with now significant action.
Big Kid Reaction: The cover has a cool drawing of a dog, but most of the pages had almost the same thing, with only a slight variation. I didn't like that nothing happened in the story. The words were more like dog commands. Not being dogs ourselves, we got little out of the text.
Pros: Cute illustrations of a Westie will engage young children. The short sentences have lots of sight words kids learn in first grade.
Cons: This is probably better as an easy reader than a book shared with kids as a story.
Borrow or Buy: Skip if you are looking for a dog story. Borrow if you want a book for helping new readers (first grade).
Educational Themes: This is not a story, and it doesn't teach you about dogs. It could be used as a practice book for new readers still working on sight words.
