Title: WELCOME HOME, FOREVER CHILD

Author: Christine Mitchell

Illustrator: Christine Mitchell

Reserve at the Library

Publisher: AuthorHouse, ©2006

Material: paperback

Summary: As a family, we celebrate all kinds of achievements, all through your life ... not just your toothless grin, when you crawled, or your first steps. This is an adoption story for children adopted as toddlers, preschoolers or older.

Type of Reading: bedtime story, anytime reading, family reading, read aloud book

Recommended Age: 4 to 9

Little Kid Reaction: Review pending.

Big Kid Reaction: This book reminds us that there is no formula for being a "family." The illustrations are cute and the Cat family (with their unique colors) add to the message.

Pros: This is a nice rhyming book to give kids adopted as young children a book that fits their situation, reassures them about the love of a family, and makes them feel special.

Cons: There are times when the rhyme seems to miss a beat, but that's minor.

Borrow or Buy: This is a buy for foster and adoptive families. For everyone else: Please borrow this book. There is a multicultural element that make this a nice way to introduce diversity and get kids thinking beyond themselves.

If You Liked This Book, Try: ADOPTION IS FOR ALWAYS , I LOVE YOU SO … , OUR TWITCHY

Educational Themes: Use this book to celebrate the moments-to-come for a child adopted as a young person. The story lays the perfect setting for creating your own wish list of the "firsts" you would like to share as a family.

Literary Categories: fiction - adoption, family, picture book
