“The greatest gift is a passion for reading.”
Summary: The Little Prince leaves his own tiny planet in search of adventures in a visit to our world. This is a very condensed version of the classic book Le Petit Prince, just for toddler-sized attention spans. This book, with both French and English, is ideal for teaching toddlers simple French, especially identifying objects.
Type of Reading: bedtime story, family reading, anytime reading, read aloud book
Recommended Age: 2 to 5
Age of Child: Started reading with child 2 years old.
Young Reader Reaction: S/he enjoys the story but focuses on the English words.
Adult Reader Reaction: It's nice to have a book with both French and English for those of us who need some refreshing of our French-speaking skills. The original illustrations from De Saint-Exupery's book brings back many memories!
Pros: The story is shortened, with only one sentence to concentrate on per page. Great for a parent teaching a foreign language.
Cons: At two, the French sentence structure is difficult to explain (it doesn't follow the English sentence structure), but the language will come with time.
Borrow or Buy: Borrow, unless you can pick this book up in France. The cost for this little book is very high.
Educational Themes: The structure and presentation offer parents an opportunity to take a French classic and begin lessons in French. Language absorption is perfect with story-telling, particularly for books that get read over and over.
Notes: On Amazon this is a special order book:$14.95 for the book, plus a $1.50 special order fee, plus shipping!
