About Eric Carle

Eric Carle was born on June 25th 1929, in Syracuse, New York. Eric loved exploring the outdoors, watching insects, and drawing. Because he loved drawing so much, Eric’s parents enrolled him in art lessons.

He started working for The New York Times as an illustrator. A few years later, in 1967, Eric published his first children’s book. The Very Hungry Caterpillar was an instant success and has been loved by children for generations!
