CLICK, CLACK, MOO: COWS THAT TYPE

Author: Doreen Cronin

Illustrator: Betsy Lewin

Reserve at the Library

Publisher: Simon & Schuster Childrens, ©2000

Material: hard cover

Summary: The Cows use an old typewriter to send Farmer Brown ultimatums from the Barn. No milk & no eggs, unless they get electric blankets. Imagination reigns supreme as you imagine cows, chickens, and ducks taking on human traits--but without speaking a word.

Type of Reading: bedtime story, anytime reading, family reading, independent reading, read aloud book

Recommended Age: read yourself: 6 to 9

Interest Level: 3 to 8

Reading Level: 1.3

Age of Child: Started reading with child nearly 2 years old.

Young Reader Reaction: This is a well-liked book, and we like to repeat the animal sounds. It wasn't love-at-first-sight like its sister book (Giggle, Giggle, Quack).

Adult Reader Reaction: A little wordier than Giggle,Giggle, Quack but an equally fun read.

Pros: This is one that we can chuckle with every time. It will hold up well with repeated readings and we can always engage the kid in making barnyard sounds.

Cons: Cows and Chickens on strike are a little beyond a toddler's understanding.

Borrow or Buy: Borrow it first, to see how it goes. If you like this one, definitely get "Moo" and "Giggle".

If You Liked This Book, Try: GIGGLE, GIGGLE, QUACK   GOOD NIGHT, GORILLA

Educational Themes: None. This is just a fun read.

Notes: Also avaliable in Spanish.

Literary Categories: Fiction - picture book, animal stories
