Recommended Age: read together: 2 to 5; read yourself: 5 to 8

Interest Level: 2 to 4

Age of Child: Started reading with child 2 years old; still reading at 3 years old.

Young Reader Reaction: Preschooler really enjoyed the interactive shapes and after a few readings, learned to turn them at the appropriate time in the story.

Adult Reader Reaction: The sounds are designed to demonstrate opposites and do a good job (musical tones and sounds go up and down depending which way one pushes the shapes).

Pros: This book is an effective tool for teaching opposites and the sound-making shapes help preschoolers learn to pay attention to cues and work on fine motor skills.

Cons: There is no volume and the batteries do die after a while.

Borrow or Buy: Buy this book if your child enjoys interactive books. The odds are that the batteries in a library version would not work.
