ELMO'S TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS

Author:

Reserve at the Library

Publisher: CTW Books, ©1996

Material: hard cover

Summary: Sing along with Elmo as he creates his own lyrics for each of his twelve days of Christmas. This is a toddlerized version of a traditional holiday song.

Type of Reading: family reading, anytime reading, read aloud book

Recommended Age: read together: 0 to 4; read yourself: 6 to 8

Interest Level: 1 to 5

Age of Child: Read with child at 2 years old, then read again at 3 years old.

Young Reader Reaction: This was an instant hit. Elmo's presence, combined with the lyrical words, made it an immediate draw.

Adult Reader Reaction: We've pulled this out two years in a row. Elmo books can be tiring, but this one is fun reading…maybe because it has the makings of a tongue twister in spots.

Pros: If you know the original song, then it's easy to transition to this version.

Cons: None, really, unless you don't like "The Twelve Days of Christmas" or toddler books that challenge adults from time-to-time.

Borrow or Buy: Borrow, but be prepared to read it a lot. You may only get two (maybe three years) out of it, but it can make for fun reading.
