Meet Grandma Janet Mary™

Janet Mary Sinke, until four years ago, worked full time as a hospice nurse. She loved her work and the opportunities it afforded her to connect with people. When she learned she had Parkinson's Disease, she had to step away from her job and face long-term illness from a different perspective.

It was in the middle of a cold January night in 2003, that she realized she was about to begin a new journey. Fragmented sleep was not uncommon for her, but this night was different. She was wide awake as soon as she received a simple idea presented to her by the Spirit: write a story about your grandchild. As she was thinking through the idea, she heard from two very powerful voices in her own life: her grandmothers. "Write about the simple things," she heard them say, "write about the simple things that feed the heart and nourish the soul."

For Janet Mary Sinke, being an author is about sharing memories and making the most of every day. Her stories draw on her own family experiences as one of eight children raised on a farm; her memories of raising her five children; and now, the joys and experiences of being surrounded by eight grandchildren!
