If you think you recognize Lisa Dunn-Dern, don't worry, your memory is not failing you. You probably heard her on the radio, or maybe saw her on TV, or you likely read an article or book that she's written. Lisa's mastery of traditional and emerging media have given multiple platforms for sharing her passion: to engage children and families in positive change.

Lisa is a former staff writer for the Fox-HBO series ROC, and produced and directed large-scale children's theater productions in Los Angeles for eight years. She also co-hosts a monthly Internet radio program with her daughter Chelsea, and also hosts a weekly children's program for Ethiopan Television.

In addition to her other work, Lisa is also an accomplished children's book author. Her picture books also reflect a positive message about family and community. The first book, Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow, is a semi-autobiographical picture book about an interracial familiy. When her daughter was younger, she went to a bookstore hoping to find a book that was like hers. When she couldn't find one, she knew she would write one some day. Lisa's newest book, Dr. Duncan Dog on Duty, is about how each of us (including our pets) have a purpose.

Philanthropy is very important to Lisa, as well. She is devoted to making a difference for children, and is passionate about literacy and learning. She and her husband set up the Dern Family Endowment at the University Elementary School, located on the UCLA campus. The endowment provides scholarships to deserving students.

Lisa lives in Los Angeles with her husband Dixon Q. Dern, a prominent Hollywood attorney and arbitrator; daughter Chelsea (14); Contessa, their dog; and a bird.
